Get the look: Claire Danes' Faux Bob

The night before the 65th Annual
Primetime Emmy Awards
At the 65th Annual Primetime
Emmy Awards

Chin grazing bobs were prevalent at the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - and not surprisingly! These stylish short crops are effortlessly chic, versatile, and great for giving the illusion of an elegantly elongated neck and spotlighting your silhouette.

If you’ve been considering a bob, we encourage you! But have no fear long-locked lovelies! If you’re not prepared to chop your tresses, you can still achieve a striking stylish short ‘do at whim.

At the Emmy Eve Soiree last weekend, Homeland actress Claire Danes’ lengthy tresses were draped loose around her shoulders. The following evening at the awards ceremony, Ms Danes transformed her hair - rolling her long locks into a faux bob. Stunning! And, it’s an easy, standout style to replicate for a special soiree or event.

To achieve this look, follow these simple steps:
  1. To create texture and pliability apply styling mousse to wet hair and blow-dry. If possible use a big round brush for sleek and springy locks.
  2. Form a deep side parting. Use a large barrelled curling iron or heated rollers to curl the bottom half of your locks under and inwards. (This will make it easier to form your faux bob.) Gently brush out the curls, to smooth your tresses.
  3. To form the basic shape of your faux bob, part your hair into two even sections. Create two wide pin curls (from each ear to the nape of your neck), by coiling each section inward and securing with hairpins along the base of your head (making sure the pins are hidden).
  4. Complete your style; by making sure the two sections are seamless and securing any loose strands. At this point you can sweep one side of your hair behind your ear and reposition your tresses to frame your face.
  5. Once everything is in place, spritz the style with hairspray.

Voila! Instant Bob!

Hairstyle picks of the week

September is arguably the most important month of the year in regards to fashion, beauty and forecasting trends for the coming year. With the various international fashion weeks and corresponding events, there has been never-ending eye candy to inspire us.

We’ve chosen but a few of our top picks from the past week or so. Enjoy…

The top crop
2013 has proved to be the year of the bob, and Leigh Lezark demonstrates how hot the crop can get. Strong, sharp and side-parted, this cut is simply bobtacular. If you’re considering venturing into the world of bobs – we can certainly recommend this one!

The winning lengths
With long, choppy layers and a defined centre parting, Georgia May Jagger’s cut is right on trend. A nice and versatile cut, you can wear this style straight and sleek, tousled and carefree or in loose lush curls.

The sweetest style
Although this is a typical style for Nicola Roberts, we can’t help but love it. It’s so effortlessly chic with its tribute to the swinging sixties. With natural-look, cascading curls paired with a wild bouffant half-pony – almost any length hair can rock this look!

The hottest hue
We just LOVE this colour! Kate Bosworth’s strawberry-blonde hair hue is warm and rich, with equal parts of sassy, sultry and glamorous. A great colour-change option for autumn.

The winsome gentleman
Justin Timberlake looks super dapper sporting this popular and charming style. Slicked back for a clean-cut look, this quiff cut (with short sides and back, and longer textured layers on top) can be styled slick or shaggy. Mr. Timberlake’s well-groomed stubble completes this suave, effortlessly cool style.

If you’d like us to help you fashion one of these stunning cuts or styles, simply give us a call or pop in for a visit to our Northampton or Dunstable salon.
